How to look after your printer while it’s quiet
Many of our customers are not printing as much as usual in these quite times, and it’s quite possible that in the days ahead your printer may even be dormant for periods of time.
It’s useful to know that there are things that you can do to ensure your printer operates as normal when life returns to normal.
The advice below is from leading printer manufacturer Canon but applies equally to all makes of printers and plotters.
Firstly, if at all possible leave your printer switched on but allow it to enter sleep mode rather than a complete shutdown.
If you are able to, complete a nozzle test pattern print once or twice a month just to ensure that none of the nozzles have become dry or blocked. This function is built into every model and is accessed via the printer’s menu.
If the nozzle test pattern print shows broken lines in the pattern, which could indicate blocked nozzles, a head clean is recommended.
Following these simple steps – allowing your printer to sleep and performing regular nozzle test pattern prints – during prolonged periods of downtime will help to keep your printer, inks and printhead in the best condition possible so that, when needed, your printer will be ready to perform to its usual high standard.
